c1955 Chein Red White And Blue Sparkler In Original Box
Hand held plunger-type tin litho sparklers were produced by J. Chein & Co. from the 1930?s through the 1950?s. Some are more common than others, but usually they've been played with. This particular example, however, is unplayed with store stock and, until I photographed it, had never been never out of the original box. One of the more commonly found versions is the spiral red, white, and blue patriotic Sparkler. The entire toy including the plunger, base, and mechanical gear mechanism are all metal. Both flints produce sparks. It has both of its original clear celluloid windows; red and blue. The colorful illustrated box shows a shower or sparks flying from the wheel.
